Women lose gold chains at temple fest

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Unidentified miscreants escaped with gold chains weighing about 30 sovereigns snatched from three women at a festival at the Marundeeswarar temple in Tiruvanmiyur on Saturday.

Police said the residents from Tiruvanmiyur and neighbouring areas had come to the temple for the festival. The victims were identified as Shivani, Yasoda and Gomathi. In another incident, the police said that when a 40-year-old woman was taking a stroll along the New Beach Road at Tiruvanmiyur at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, a two-wheeler rider wearing a full-mask helmet snatched her chain weighing about seven sovereigns and fled.
