Overhaul of vocational stream syllabus soon, says Minister

MADURAI: To maximise the number of aspirants and generate employment to students of vocational education, an updated syllabus with prioritisation for the introduction of new chapters reflecting current trends is in the making, said Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for School Education.

Addressing the State conference of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Commerce Vocational Education Post Graduate Teachers’ Association here on Friday, the Minister said that from the time Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam came to power, the last 19 months had been witness to radical changes in the educational sphere.

A committee headed by Girija Vaidyanathan, member, Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission, which was reviewing the existing curriculum, would submit its report and as per its recommendations necessary changes would be made. To create equality in education, efforts were taken to streamline it with uniform standards.

Director of School Education Jaganathan said that educational reforms had and should always be slow and steady to withstand the test of time.
