Rescued women shifted to shelter homes

KADIRI (ANANTAPUR DT.): Ten women, who were apprehended by a police team from the State during a raid on a brothel house in Pune two days ago, were arrested by the Kadiri police in the district on Sunday on charges of trafficking. They were produced before a judge and later remanded.
The victims including three minors were moved to shelter homes run by non-governmental organisations. The police stated that the victims were initiated into the flesh trade by the traffickers. The police also stated that while the traffickers were from Kadapa and Chittoor districts, the victims were from Kadiri region.
Giving the details to newspersons here, Kadiri DSP N. Sainath stated that the police team comprising a CI, 4 Sub-Inspectors including a woman SI, woman constables and the sleuths of CID raided a brothel house in Pune on January 4 and apprehended the 10 traffickers and seven victims. Meanwhile, Minister for Tribal Welfare and Remote and Interior Areas Development D.S. Reddya Nayak distributed about Rs. 2 crore assistance to women rehabilitated from trafficking.
