Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A Pomeranian ‘Th Ch Pak Domes Destin At Dome’, owned by Vetri Duraisamy was adjudged the ‘best in show’ in the 80th championship and a Kerry blue terrier ‘Th Grand Ch Torums Electric Bill’, owned by C.S. Sanjay and Ms. P. Saipin the best in the 81st championship in the all breeds dog show organised by the Madras Canine Club here on Sunday.

Along with the prizes for the ‘best in show’ was the Mork Trophy instituted by Ms. Mariam Ram for the 80th edition and the Rangarajan Memorial Trophy, instituted by the Madras Canine Club for the 81st edition.

Mr. N. Ram, Editor-in-chief, The Hindu, presented the Rangarajan Memorial Trophy to the representative of Kerry blue terrier.

The second best in both championships was the cute-looking Tibetan breed Shihtzu ‘Hearty Legrand Brandy Alexander’, owned by Vetri Duraisamy. The Shihtzu was also the nomination for the ‘best puppy’ in both the championships.

The Kerry blue terrier was nominated for third place in the 80th and the Pomeranian for the 81st championship.

Best in show

The ‘best in show’ prize for dogs bred in India for both the editions, went to a dachshund (std) smooth, ‘Pradpranpark’s Wanda’, owned by R. Padmachandran.

The originally planned two-day show was compressed into a one-day affair because of inclement weather. “It was hectic but everything went off smoothly,” said C.V. Sudarshan, Secretary of the Canine Club, at the end of the programme.

The 80th championship was judged by Roger Hartinger of U.S. and the 81st by Tamas Jakkel of Hungary. Both judges expressed happiness on the organisational front.

The City Police Commissioner, Nanchil Kumaran, was the chief guest.
