HYDERABAD: The State Government will consider proposal for appointment of administrators to all hospitals in the State with a bed strength of over 100, including teaching hospitals. This was announced here on Monday by AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao and Medical Education Minister Galla Aruna Kumari after a meeting convened by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to review health programmes. They said the meeting discussed the desirability of having administrators to supervise upkeep of cleanliness and facilities for patients. While agreeing to the suggestion, Dr. Reddy invited proposals from the respective departments, they added. They also said the idea of administrators was mooted since Superintendents and Resident Medical Officers were unable to devote time to sanitation. Dr. Reddy insisted on clean hospitals to instil confidence in patients. He ordered completion of repairs and colour-wash in all hospital buildings within a year. He also wanted deployment of personnel to ensure tidy lavatories and bathrooms. Mr. Venkateswara Rao said Dr. Reddy sanctioned 50 posts of drug inspector to be filled by next month to meet the challenge of spurious drugs flooding the market. A large quantity of drugs whose life expired had also entered the market, he added. Dr. Reddy insisted that the recruitment of 534 civil assistant surgeons, 703 staff nurses and 450 para-medical staff, which was initiated recently, should be completed this month-end. The recruitment of 135 dental surgeons was stayed by court. Polytrauma casesMs. Aruna Kumari said Dr. Reddy agreed to inclusion of polytrauma cases and road accidents in the Rajiv Arogyasri, a health insurance scheme for below poverty line families. He cleared launch of the third phase of the scheme in Medak, Karimnagar, Prakasam, Nellore and Kadapa districts on April 5. The final phase to cover left-over districts in the State would be launched on October 4. Health cards would be issued to patients insured in the first phase in Anantapur, Mahabubnagar and Srikakulam districts. The card system was evolved from the second phase, she said and added that health cards for accreditated journalists would also be issued all over the State. The facility was presently available to journalists in Kadapa district, Ms. Aruna Kumari said.
