PUDUCHERRY: A handwriting orientation programme was conducted for students of Achariya Bala Siksha Mandir in Uppalam. Students with basic problems related to writing were identified and given special training. As many as 144 students of the school also took part in a Spell and Win contest. S. Abinaya Sen of Standard V-A secured the seventh place in a chess competition conducted by the T. Nagar Chess Academy. Scholastic India conducted a book fair on the campus from January 3. Good showStudents of Petit Seminaire HSS fared well in the 34th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children. In the quiz competition, D. Arularasan of Standard XII B1 came second and in the drawing competition T. Abarijithan of Standard XI B1 bagged the first prize. Two innovative banners prepared by S. Sivakumar and C. Christian, drawing masters of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School found a place in the exhibition. Father M.S. John Bosco, school principal, congratulated the prize winners and the guide teacher, P. Antony Vincent Raj. The Puducherry State United Karate Association conducted a state-level karate tournament. G. Birla of Standard VIII won the gold medal in the individual karate event. Shito School of Karate-Do conducted karate competitions. B. Harish of Standard IX and K. Ilamparithi of Standard IX F were awarded black belts. In collaboration with the Puducherry Science Forum, the school launched a ‘Planet Earth’ programme. Devi Prasad of the Department of Ecology, Pondicherry University, spoke and inaugurated the session. A winnerAt St. Joseph of Cluny School, Anjana K.R. of Standard V participated in a Rota Sport State Ranking Tennis Tournament. She was declared runner up in the under-10 category, and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1,500, declared winner in the under-12 category and won a cash prize of Rs. 2,500. She also qualified to enter the semi-finals in the under-14 category and won a cash prize of Rs. 800. Karpaga Priya P. of Standard IX and her group members, Akshaya V. and Jananie C. participated in the National Science Congress in Pune between December 27 and 31. They were awarded medals and certificates. Their guide teacher, K.P. Rajeswari was also awarded a certificate.
