The team interacts with officials, community leaders To meet Chief Minister and Governor today BERHAMPUR: A two-member team of the National Minority Commission visited Kandhamal district on Monday to take stock of the situation. Dilip Padgaonkar and Jaya Hasan reached the district headquarters town Phulbani in the morning and held a review meeting with the administrative and police officials. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Pradeep Kapur, Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police R.P. Koche, southern division Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) Satyabrata Sahu, Kandhamal Collector Manish Verma and Superintendent of Police (SP) Nikhil Kumar Kanodia attended the meeting. They then held separate discussions with representatives of different communities hailing from different riot-hit areas of the district like Brahmanigaon, Baliguda, Barkhama, Phiringia. They also held discussions with leaders of the tribal organisation Kui Samaj, representatives of churches as well as members of the Sangh Parivar. On their return journey to Bhubaneswar in the afternoon, they visited Khajuripada where they visited the local revenue inspector’s office and offices of some NGOs. On Tuesday, they would meet the Chief Minister and the Governor. They would file their report after returning to New Delhi. Night curfewMeanwhile, no fresh violence was reported from Kandhamal district. But the administration urged the government to retain CRPF personnel for some more weeks as a precautionary measure. Night curfew continues at places like Baliguda, Daringbadi, Phiringia and Brahmanigaon. Restrictions under Section 144 remained in force in 11 police station areas of the district. Special Relief Commissioner N.K. Sundaray was monitoring relief measures for victims of communal violence in the district. By Tuesday, 2,500 blankets and 500 sets of utensils were distributed at places like Barkhama, Brahmanigaon and Baliguda. Victims of 167 affected villages would be provided employment through the NREGP on priority basis. The government also decided to provide free food to victims for three months.
