Speed up conversion

Kumbakonam is a major business and religious centre.

I request the railway authorities to speed up the BG conversion works in the Kumbakonam-Villuppuram section.

I also request the railways to lay a new railway line from Kumbakonam to Jayamkondam, which will reduce the travelling time from Kumbakonam to Chennai by 61 km.

Earlier, the railways was plying Tiruchi-Tirupathi express, which was very much helpful to the people for reaching Tirupathi.

This train should be restored immediately.

Moreover, the railways has not taken steps to operate the Kumbakonam–Chennai overnight express train, which was announced in the Railway Budge 2005.

A. Srinivasan,

Kumbakonam.

Delay in bank transaction

Issue of jewel loans in nationalised banks around Kumbakonam area is inordinately delayed by the staff making customers wait for long. One aged person the other day fell unconscious on a bank premises at Melakaveri branch. Bank Staff should realise that they are not doing any obligation to the customers and that customers are giving them an opportunity to serve.

K. Santhanam,

Kumbakonam.

Rain-ravaged roads must be repaired

All the roads, particularly, Thanjavur-Nagapattinam and Thanjavur-Chennai are horribly damaged by the heavy rain.

As the roads are not repaired in time, they have become from bad to worse.

If the roads are not repaired immediately, they will cause fatal catastrophy to travellers.

I earnestly request officials to take immediate action to repair the roads and ensure safety to the people who travel on the roads.

Kavi Akbardeen,

Pandaravadai. Thanjavur district.

Enhance facilities in colleges

Arts colleges run by the Government lack lab and other infrastructure.

The available facilities are not maintained properly. In the long run, those things may not be useful for the students.

When I visited one of the oldest Govt Colleges in Thanjavur, I found that the lawns and grounds were not properly maintained.

The garages scattered here and there.

The student toilets were not cleaned.

The scene is no different in other colleges in the State.

Authorities should take appropriate steps to enhance the facilities and modernise them at all Govt Arts Colleges.

This will help a lot students from weaker sections.

A. Haja Abdul Khader,

Adirampattinam.

Clean coaches

I thank the railways for operating a special train from Chennai Egmore to Nagercoil on the night of January 6.

I know pretty well that the special trains are run with the available old coaches.

The coach, in which I was travelling from Chennai to Tiruchi in the above train, was not maintained properly and some of the windows could not be opened.

I request the railway authorities to take steps to clean the coaches before the trains commence the journey.

Suhail Ahmed Bijli,

Thanjavur.

Meeting of medical officers

Collectors should be empowered to convene meetings of medical officers on the hospital premises itself to discuss sanitary conditions and remedial action, besides advising the officials concerned on periodical inspection of government hospitals, so that regular attendance, availability of medicines and emergency drugs are ensured and the public grievances redressed without any complaint.

R.S. Moorthy,

Karur.
