Chitradurga: Four employees of the City Municipal Council (CMC) have been remanded in judicial custody here on Monday, following charges of criminal intimidation, obstructing a government official while discharging his duties and use of abusive language. The police identified them as office administrator H. Mahantesh, in-charge health inspectors Gopal Krishna and Wasim and second division clerk Umesh Kumar. Earlier on Saturday, seven staff members were put under suspension following a complaint lodged by Municipal Commissioner Jayappa of being manhandled by them. The incident of alleged manhandling had taken place on Thursday, against which Mr. Jayappa filed a complaint in the town police station and also informed the Deputy Commissioner. Employees unhappyAccording to the employees, several staff members of the CMC were unhappy with the alleged corrupt activities of Mr. Jayappa and his “unprofessional behaviour.” Following a complaint by a woman employee charging him with misbehaviour the staff had gathered at the CMC office on Thursday and roughed up Mr. Jayappa inside his cabin. As a result, criminal cases were filed against them. It is said that the names of 17 staff had been included in the First Information Report, but so far action has been initiated against seven. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered into the incident.
