Huts destroyed in fire

DAVANGERE: Over 20 huts were burnt in a fire accident at Metticamp near Kokanur village in the district on Sunday. Foodgrains, clothing, valuables and children’s textbooks were reduced to ashes owing to a devastating fire which engulfed the area. However, no casualties were reported as the people of the camp had fled to safer places soon after. Fire engines, which were summoned from Harihar, struggled to extinguish the fire for more than two hours. Revenue officers visited the camp and made arrangements for temporary rehabilitation of the people. H.S. Shivashankar, MLC, visited the camp. — Staff Correspondent
