Revenue collection up by Rs. 883 crore

‘Targets envisaged in Revenue Estimates would be achieved’


Tax collection had increased by 13.01 per cent

Entertainment tax increased by 29 per cent

VAT collections up by 11.08 per cent only


NEW DELHI: Delhi Finance and Planning Minister A. K. Walia on Monday announced that there had been a Rs. 883.45-crore increase in tax revenue collection during the first eight months of the current financial year. The collections have gone up to Rs.7,675.16 crore till November 2007 as against Rs.6791.71 crore during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Dr. Walia said while the tax collection had increased by 13.01 per cent, there had been an increase of 29 per cent in collection of entertainment tax, 24 per cent in taxes on vehicles, 22 per cent in stamps and registration fees and 14 per cent in luxury tax. However, the increase in VAT collections was comparatively less at 11.08 per cent.

He said Rs.37.76 crore was collected as entertainment tax as against Rs.29.38 crore; Rs.305.40 crore in taxes on vehicles against Rs.245.79 crore; Rs.821.56 crore in stamps and registration fees against Rs.674.22 crore; and Rs.222.40 crore in luxury tax against Rs.195.24crore; Rs.815.51 crore in State excise against Rs.721.70 crore; and Rs.5,468.60 crore in VAT against Rs.4,923.06 crore.

There has also been an increase of 16.37 per cent in collection of other taxes and duties on commodities and services and Rs.264.09 crore was collected under this head up to November, 2007, against Rs.226.94 crore during the previous year.

The Minister expressed confidence that collection of revenue receipts of the Delhi Government would continue to increase as it has been implementing trader-friendly and people-friendly policies. He further expressed hope that the targets envisaged in Revenue Estimates would be comfortably achieved.
