8 hurt in clash between CPI(M), IUML workers

Kanhangad: After a brief period of peace, Kanhangad on Monday witnessed yet another spell of clashes between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M) and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) activists, in which eight people were injured and 10 houses damaged, police said.

The fresh bout of trouble started following a duel between two activists of the rival parties at Kolavayal area in the town. Soon the workers of both the parties started attacking houses of rival partymen in which 10 houses were partially damaged.

As many as eight people were injured in the clashes.

Two motorcycles of persons believed to be CPI(M) workers were set afire by a mob this morning.

Heavy police force was camping in the sensitive areas of the town to prevent further untoward incidents, police added. The coastal town and adjoining areas had been witnessing isolated incidents. — PTI
