NELLORE: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu has claimed there are enough hints that Lok Sabha polls will take place ahead of its scheduled time in 2009. The BJP’s announcement that L. K. Advani is its choice for the Prime Minister’s post if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comes to power is a step to push the party into the election mode. Moreover, the party will highlight development, staunch nationalism and indifferent attitude of some political parties including the Congress and the Left towards terrorism as its poll planks, the BJP senior leader told reporters on Monday. Mr. Naidu claimed that the BJP would be within the reach of the winning Parliamentary majority, particularly after victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections. “At the same time, many Congress leaders too had started sensing the recent electoral debacles as a long-term loss to the Congress.” Claiming that many sections of society have been moving away from the Congress, the BJP leader said that his party had fared well in most of the States where the Congress was in power. Citing an example, he said the BJP had done well in the local body elections in Maharashtra and Delhi. He claimed that the Centre, the Congress in particular, had been adopting delaying tactics particularly with regard to holding elections in Karnataka.
