dated January 8, 1958: Award for M.O.P. Iyengar

The “Birbal Sahni Medal” for outstanding work in the field of botany, was presented to Prof. M.O.P. Iyengar, formerly Professor of Botany, Presidency College, and retired Director of the University Botanical Laboratory, Madras, at a function held on Janaury 6 under the auspices of the Indian Botanical Society at the New Syndicate Room, Madras University, by Mrs. Savitri Sahni, Director of the Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow. Dr. S. K. Pande, President, Indian Botanical Society, referred to the distinguished services of the late Prof. Sahni for the advancement of Indian science. Prof. Iyengar, the first recipient, was a profound scholar, a great teacher and a sportsman, he said.
