To err is human but …

It is unfortunate that the match was played and finished in a hostile atmosphere. One bad decision can be the result of a mistake. Repeated mistakes cannot and should not be condoned. The Australians are a better team but they certainly did not deserve to win the Sydney Test. We should play them only in neutral venues with neutral umpires.

O.P. Swaminathan,

Ajman

To err is human but to err 12 times in the same match is certainly not. A wonderful game was destroyed by the umpires. Both the teams suffered but it was the Indian team that suffered the most.

B. Krishnan,

Ghaziabad

To err is human and umpires are no exception. But the error cannot always be in favour of one team.

P. Thulasidhass,

Tiruvannamalai

Over the years, the ICC has evolved and enforced a thousand rules for punishing players. But players alone cannot ensure fair play. Umpires too need to be fair. Players should be allowed to express limited dissent. This will improve the quality of umpiring. Similarly, the referees should be required to state the reasons for their decisions.

Barna Baibhaba Panda,

Ranchi

Bucknor and Benson should have been declared men of the match. Bucknor has been consistently erring in his decisions. It is time he hung up his hat.

M.D. Ravikanth,

Chennai

Flagrantly wrong decisions by umpire Buckner have angered all Indians. The ICC should have retired the umpire long ago considering his age and a series of judgment errors on his part.

Cricket is no longer cricket and is certainly not played by gentlemen. The Australian team is no doubt very good. But it appears it can go to any length to win as it does not have the courage to face defeat.

Rattan Kotwal,

Gurgaon

After the introduction of neutral umpires, this is perhaps the first Test match wherein most of the bad decisions have gone against one team at crucial moments. Even though the Sydney Test marked a victory for the Australian team on record, it marked the defeat of the game of cricket.

K.S. Sridharan,

Chennai
