Imran Hasan wins rifle 3-position gold

AHMEDABAD: Imran Hasan Khan let the disappointment of missing the Olympic quota pass as he overcame a resilient Sushil Ghaley to win the men’s 50m rifle three-position gold medal in the 51st National shooting championship at the Rifle Club here on Monday.

Khan missed picking up the Olympic quota at the Asian championships in Kuwait last month by a few points. “I was very much hoping to clinch it, but it was not to be,” Khan said of his Kuwait performance.

Here, Khan started with a deficit of one point but fired six 10s to power his way past overnight leader Ghaley, also of Army. Khan scored 100.7 in the final following his 1156 in the qualification round for a total of 1256.7.

Ghaley, who had 1157 before the start of the final, was bogged down by his poor first shot of 8.6. He managed 95.6 to win the silver medal with an aggregate of 1252.6.

Army completed the podium finish when Surendra Sinh Rathod edged ahead of teammate Devesh Pawar on the final shot worth 10.3 to win the bronze.
