Sania Mirza advances with ease; Santoro bundles out Blake in Sydney

Paes-Hanley duo exits

Hobart: Shrugging off her average outing at the Hopman Cup, Sania Mirza started her campaign at the $1,70,000 Moorilla Hobart International with a convincing 6-4, 6-0 victory over unheralded Lourdes Dominguez here on Monday.

At Sydney, James Blake’s attempt to win his third successive Medibank International ended on Monday after just one match.

France’s Fabrice Santoro beat the third-seeded American 7-6(4), 6-2, taking a 5-0 lead in the second set before Blake came back to win a pair of games.

In men’s doubles, India’s Leander Paes, partnering Austrlain Paul Hanley, had a bad day in the office.

The duo lost to the fourth-seed Czech pair of Martin Damm, a former partner of the Indian ace, and Pavel Vizner 6-7, (5), 4-6 in the first round.
