‘Kagbeni’ revolves around human wishes and how there was no end to them HYDERABAD: ‘Kagbeni’, a debut by a music video producer and the chief executive producer of Kantipur Television Network, a channel with a high reach in Nepal, has started creating waves even before its official release slated for January 11. That’s Bhusan Dahal, whose 125-minute colour digital film sort of premiered at the second edition of Hyderabad International Film Festival here, in the World Cinema section. He told The Hindu that his maiden effort was a proper thriller that revolved around human wishes and how there was no end to them. It is about how human beings do not know where to stop and of betrayal and revenge. An adaptation of “Monkey’s Paw”, a horror short story by W.W. Jacobs, it primarily has three main characters, including a popular Nepali pop star Nima Rumba who has also debuted in it. Satisfied with response“I have always been attracted to the power that the visual medium wields. But as one who is used to making music videos at a snapshot pace where the frames keep constantly changing, I admit it took a long time to make a full-fledged film. I am bowled over by the response here and I feel satisfied, rather justified that ‘Kagbeni’ premiered here, exactly four days before its release in Nepal,” he says, exuding confidence. Bhusan comes across as a person who has seen it all - from the 35 mm film versions to the latest Nikon D40X. Favourite framesHis favourite frames are human faces and this was amply proved when he started clicking this reporter and photographer, when the latter was shooting the filmmaker himself.
