Need for multi-purpose ID cards: Harsh Vardhan

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding that he initiate a campaign for issuing multi-purpose identity cards to all Indian citizens and non-citizens. On a day when Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna clarified that possession of identity cards had not been made mandatory, Dr. Vardhan wrote in his letter that there was indeed a need for issuing multi-purpose cards all over the country for keeping a tab on illegal immigrants as also on criminals and terrorists.
