Maken urged to clarify regularisation issue

Staff Reporter

Some “major discrepancies” pointed out

NEW DELHI: Five Delhi BJP MLAs and a Nationalist Congress Party councillor met Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken on Monday to point out some “major discrepancies” in regularisation of 1,539 unauthorised colonies.

The delegation — led by Saket MLA Vijay Jolly and comprising MLAs Ramesh Bidhuri, Kulwant Rana, Mohan Singh Bisht and Dharm Dev Solanki and Councillor Mool Chand Sharma — informed the Minister that the guidelines issued by his Ministry on October 5, 2007, and the subsequent notification issued by the Delhi Government on November 14, 2007, did not tally.

Mr. Jolly said it was pointed out that there were major deviations in the Delhi Government notification. “These are contrary to the guidelines issued by the Union Urban Development Ministry.

“In fact it has become a handy tool for the corrupt officials, unscrupulous RWA representatives and touts to harass lakhs of people living in these poor unauthorised colonies,” he told the Minister.

Charges of extortion

Further, the delegation said, under the garb of regularisation, money was being extorted from the residents of these colonies in the name of it being deposited with the Delhi Government or being paid as bribe to officials.

The MLAs and the Councillor urged Mr. Maken to come clear on the issue and clarify the exact position on the notified guidelines as the Ministry is the only nodal agency for issuing such guidelines.

Demand for Ordinance

They also demanded that the Ministry bring an Ordinance to save the residential fourth and fifth floors from being demolished on orders of the Delhi High Court.
