Notification issued for filling 969 doctor posts

Kakinada: The State Government will allocate Rs. 175 crore in 2008-09 for purchasing medicines in government hospitals compared to Rs. 150 crore last year.

Besides, new buildings are being constructed for 147 primary health centres as part of measures aimed at augmenting medical infrastructure, said Minister for Health and Family Welfare S Chandrasekhar. Speaking after inaugurating additional building of PHC at Pulimeru of Peddapuram mandal on Sunday, the Minister said construction of new PHC buildings would be completed in a couple of months. The Government has already issued notification for filling 969 doctor posts and 2,700 applications were received, he said.

Mobile clinics

Mr. Chandrasekhar said that the process of recruiting 300 more doctors would be set in motion soon.

Mr. Chandrasekhar said the 104 mobile clinics would be launched on January 26 to supplement the medical services being rendered in the government hospitals and PHC. Ninety five percent of the expenditure is being borne by the government while the balance will be spent by the private partner Satyam Foundation.

UK-based DFID has recently sanctioned Rs 320 crore for improving the health care services in the rural areas. Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch Venugopala Krishna and MLA T Gopalakrishna were also present.
