Panel to monitor implementation of National Food Security Mission

VIZIANAGARAM: A 14-member executive committee to monitor and implement National Food Security Mission with the District Collector as chairman was constituted at a meeting here on Monday.
Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Nellore, Nalgonda, Medak, Mahaboobnagar, Krishna, Khammam, Guntur and Adilabad are the 11 districts selected in the State under the NFSM. The committee will monitor the scheme components through the Agriculture Department.
The mission was sanctioned considering the extent of paddy raised in more than 50,000 ha and also the average production gap in rice per hectare is lower than the State average.
The average production of paddy per hectare is 1,848 kg in Vizianagaram district when compared with the State average of 2,9328 kg per ha, according to an official release.
A sum of Rs. 8.62 lakhs was sanctioned for rabi crop in the district.
Objective
The objective of the mission is to increase production of paddy through area expansion and productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner, restoring soil fertility, creation of employment opportunities and enhancing farm level economy.
