HYDERABAD: Officials from various departments have informed the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, that his goal of providing one million jobs would be achieved by March 2009. Reviewing the progress of the employment generation mission at the Secretariat here on Monday, Dr. Reddy said funds would not be a problem as far as training and skill upgradation were concerned. Merely producing graduates and engineers would not help and what mattered was finding employment for them, he added. Officials who made presentations on employment generated so far told the Chief Minister that an action plan had been drawn up to achieve the target, a press release said. All departments put together generated 2.50 lakh jobs in 2007-08 till now and by March one more lakh would be added. Over 6.72 lakh jobs would be created by March 31, 2009 to achieve the target of one million. Dr. Reddy mooted three more institutes of excellence to impart specialised skilled training in specific trades and sectors for more ‘employability’. This would enable theemployers to directly absorbcandidates.The centres of excellence would be State academies of textiles/garments, service sector and animation. The existing institute of hospitality and hotel management would be upgraded to that of centre of excellence.
