Caparo group to set up automobile park in Andhra Pradesh

Staff Reporter

Investment of Rs. 2,500 cr. in a phased manner

Job opportunities for around 15,000 persons

NELLORE: After Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Nellore district is fast becoming a hub for automobile units too.

The Caparo Vehicle Products, a unit of Caparo group of Lord Swaraj Paul, is setting up an automobile park at Naidupet of Nellore district. It will very soon establish the automobile park in around 1,500 acres of land with an investment of Rs. 2,500 crore in a phased manner.

The district administration is expecting that the park could generate employment avenues for around 15,000 skilled and unskilled persons of both local and non-local areas. .

Lands inspected

“A team from Caparo group, which has been running several plants in India catering to the needs of General Motors, Maruti, Honda, Ford and Volvo among others, has recently inspected several lands at Srinivasapuram of Juvvalapalem panchayat and Nelaballi panchayat of Doravarisatram mandal. And they have reportedly evinced keen interest in setting up the automobile park in the same area as the location is well connected on road, rail and sea besides being close to Chennai, around 100 km away.

“Moreover, the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has come forward to hand over the same lands to the Caparo group at a nominal price. In case the group has any second thought about the lands, they can look for lands at Menakur, where APIIC has already acquired around 4,500 acres of land,” the official said.

It may be recalled that the State government, which has earlier sent its senior officials to Chennai to meet Swaraj Paul on October 4 last year to explore the possibility of Caparo group to set up a Light Commercial Vehicle unit in Nellore, listed out as to what kind of incentives it has been offering to those who have either decided or set up industrial units such as footwear, apparel, textiles, steel plant and others.
