“Steps to set up port at Thirukuvalai”

Rare photographs, works of Karunanidhi on display at book fair in Chennai

EDUCATIVE: Kanimozhi MP and Arcot N. Veeraswami, Electricity Minister, at the inauguration of the Kalaignar Padaiparangam stall at the book fair in Chennai on Monday.

CHENNAI: The State government will take steps to set up a port at Thirukuvalai, birth place of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasami said here on Monday.

He was addressing participants at the inaugural of the 31st book fair in the city.

Kanimozhi MP opened the ‘Kalaignar Padaiparangam’, resembling the house of Mr. Karunanidhi at Thirukuvalai, where, rare photographs of the Chief Minister, his literary works and speeches have been displayed.

Political journey

Mr. Veeraswami said the revolutionary leader’s Himalayan contribution to the nation-building process and his political journey was well depicted through the ‘Kalaignar Padaiparangam’.

This would enable the younger generation learn about the leader.

Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy said the ‘Padaiparangam’ provided a glimpse into the public life of the Chief Minister, whose life and teachings were being emulated by many leaders.

Tourism and Registration Minister N. Suresh Rajan hoped the younger generation would take a leaf out of the leader’s life and emulate them in true letter and spirit.

Ms. Kanimozhi appreciated the efforts of Rama Narayanan, president, Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram; Gandhi Kannadasan, president, Booksellers and Publishers Association, Chennai; R.S. Shanmugam, secretary of the Association, and poet Ilayabharathi for setting up the Padaiparangam.
