PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has said that whatever be their vocation or background, parents must encourage their children to study. Speaking after releasing a book titled ‘Sindhanai Thulirgal’ penned by Karai. M. Venugopalan on Sunday, he said education was the only way for the nation to progress. Pradesh Congress Committee president P. Shanmugam, Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan and poet Mannarmannan heaped encomiums on the author, who was born in a family of agriculturists and had done his doctorate in agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. Mr. Shahjahan said books were vehicles that carried across the thoughts of writers to the readers and inspired others. Mr. Venugopalan said the essays were born out of thoughts on humanity during his stint in Manipur. “Some thoughts lead to revolution and some to destruction. But, our thoughts need to lead to the betterment of society and mankind.” The author, who retired as Principal Scientist from the Central Rice Research Institute in Orissa and had earlier served in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has written more than 50 essays and Tamil books on agriculture, a couple of poetry books and a novel.
