Distributes financial assistance to 45 beneficiaries
New family cards given to six persons NAMAKKAL: Collector G. Sundaramurthi has called upon the self-help group (SHG) members in the district to take up self-employment activities to improve their socio-economic conditions. Participating in the Cooperative Day celebrations organised as a part of the Multimedia Exhibition on Government Boys Higher Secondary School (Namakkal South) premises here on Monday, he said that the banks were extending credit to the SHGs as they were re-paying the loans properly. Later, he distributed loans Rs. 2.61 crore to 2,616 beneficiaries under various schemes. Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies K. Ganesan and Salem District Central Cooperative Bank Special Officer K.M. Tamizharasan also spoke. The Collector distributed financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 2.32 lakh to 45 beneficiaries during the Agriculture Day held recently. The assistance included subsidy for purchasing tractors, power tillers, rotavators and motor pump sets. The district administration organised Women’s day on January 5. The Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, V.P. Duraisamy, participating in the programme, distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held for women. On January 4, welfare assistance worth Rs. 37,500 was distributed to five beneficiaries from the district Collector’s discretionary funds. New family cards were distributed to six persons. District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj presided. Students of various Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare hostels and Backward Class Welfare hostels performed cultural programmes. On January 3, the Education Department in association with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Indo-US project for Child Labour Abolition and Valarkalvi project organised Educational Development Day. Drawing, poem writing and essay writing competitions were organised for the children rescued from the clutches of child labour. District-level drawing and slogan writing competitions on child labour abolition were also conducted for college students. Mr. Sundaramurthi gave away the prizes to the winners.
