Yellamavasya at Malpe
Staff Correspondent
Udupi: A large number of devotees bathed in the Arabian Sea at the Vadabhandeshwara Beach at Malpe here on Tuesday on the occasion of Yellamavasya. They also had “darshan” of Lord Balarama at the Vadabhandeshwara Temple. After bathing, the devotees offered “tarpanas”.
Mythology has it that Parushurama, one of the “avatars” of Lord Vishnu, destroyed the Kshatriyas when he went 21 times around the world. And for repentance, he gave “tarpana” to the “pitrs” at the Panchasarovar “Samanta Panchaka” at Kurukshetra. It is said that after the great Mahabharata war, “tarpanas” were given to the dead on Yellamavasya.
