Desecration: police action sought

Staff Correspondent

Udupi: The Udupi district unit of the Karnataka Forum for Dignity has sought action against those involved in the alleged desecration of Jumma Masjid at Muloor village on January 1.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, president of the district unit of the forum Abdul Rehman said the police should not succumb to pressure from any quarter in dealing with this case.

‘Deliberate act’

“This was a deliberate act to disturb social harmony,” he alleged.

“The forum will take out a procession from Uchila to Muloor village and conduct a public meeting at Muloor on Wednesday, if the police failed to respond to the demand.

“The police should stop harassing innocent people who were not involved in the incident,” Mr. Rehman said.

He alleged that various attempts had been made at disturbing communal harmony in Padubidri and Kaup villages in the past.

Vice-president of district unit of the forum Amir Hamza, convener of the district unit of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike K.J. Bhandarkar, chief convener of Janapara Vedike Sriram Divana, writer G. Rajashekhar and convener of Vicharavadi Vedike Gopal B. Shetty were present.
