Nod for Sainik school in Karimnagar district

KARIMNAGAR: The Union Defence Ministry has in principle agreed to the establishment of a Sainik school in Karimnagar district, provided the State Government agrees to extend basic infrastructure and equipment, including salary and other major expenditure for the school.

Disclosing this to newsmen here on Tuesday, K. Jagan Mohan Rao, chairman of Captain Vijaya Raghunandhan Rao Memorial Trust, said the total cost required for setting up of Sainik school at present is Rs. 20 crore, spread over 6 to 7 years, besides a recurring expenditure of around Rs. 1.3 crore.

The Union Defence Ministry would contribute by providing three service officers as principal, headmaster and registrar, NCC staff, physical training instructors and a limited number of scholarships to the wards of defence personnel studying in Sainik school.

He said that the confirmation for the setting up of the school was made by Bhaskar Verma, Deputy Secretary (Training) and secretary Sainik School Society, Ministry of Defence.

He said that he had written to Union Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju for the setting up of the school in memory of Captain Vijay Raghunandhan Rao, who is the first Vir Chakra awardee from Telangana.

In Andhra Pradesh, there is only one Sainik School in Korukonda, Vizianagaram district, he said.
