NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the Delhi police to produce before it by January 11 a teenaged girl who has been missing since December 7.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice P. K. Bhasin also asked the police to file a status report about the progress of investigations in the case.
The Court passed the direction on a habeas corpus petition by the father of the missing girl. The petitioner is a Delhi High Court advocate.
The petitioner submitted that he had received a ransom call from a criminal of Haryana ten days after the abduction of his daughter.
The girl, a Class X student of a reputed school in South Delhi, went missing on December 7 last year. However, the petitioner submitted that he suspected that his daughter had been abducted.
He further said that he had received a ransom call from a mobile phone. The caller refused to identify himself but said that he was in a financial crisis. He admitted that the girl was with him and he would call him later to specifically tell how much ransom money he wanted for the release of the girl, the petition said. The petitioner had lodged a kidnapping case with the Sarojini Nagar police after he came to know that his daughter had gone missing.
