Dr. Sukarno, President of Indonesia, who arrived in New Delhi from Calcutta on January 7, had a preliminary exchange of views on the international situation with Prime Minister Nehru when the two met at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Indonesian President declared that “the present struggle for the liberation of West Irian embraces self-assertion of national identity reflected in the independent foreign policy and simultaneously to establish on firm foundations our national economy.” Dr. Sukarno said that he would discuss Indonesia’s policy towards Netherlands in particular as well as the present day world developments.
