This Day That Age
The Government have accepted certain suggestions for the improvement of the Vedanthangal bird sanctuary. A strong live fence all round the 74-acre extent of the sanctuary is to be grown to prevent ingress of cattle and damage to the trees in it. In order to attract a larger number of humming birds to the lake, it was suggested that fruit trees might be planted and Government have accepted this suggestion. Observation posts constructed at convenient heights around the palmyrah trees are to be provided for the benefit of naturalists and bird watchers. The provision of a canteen along with other amenities like rest house is to be taken up under the scheme for the promotion of tourism in the Second Five-Year Plan, says a press release issued by the government of Madras.
