An overdose

I feel, lately, we have been having an overdose of cricket — day in and day out, week after week, month after month. As a result, it is proving to be a national time-waster.

The people remain glued to their TV sets, students do not study, and other sporting events suffer. Let us restore the balance, and let cricket not dominate our lives.

Madhu R.D. Singh,

Ambala

The front page picture, the editorial and the letters to the editor (Jan. 8) show that cricket is being given undue importance, as though a disaster has struck the country. Cricket is just a whimsical game which has hooked erstwhile colonial countries. No other country touches this game for obvious reasons. Compared with other tiny countries, India fares miserably especially in the Olympics about which we hardly seem to care.

Y.S. Kadakshamani,

Madurai

It is heartening to see the people’s outrage and indignation over the treatment given to Team India in Australia. How much more heartening it would be if we expressed even a fraction of this outrage over the atrocities, indignities and injustices heaped on our countrymen by fellow countrymen!

Arnab Basak,

New Delhi
