Kochi: Kerala Yuktivadi Sanghom has demanded permission for inspecting the Makara Jyothi, the light that appears at Ponnambalamedu near Sabarimala on January 14. The rationalists’ forum had applied for permission and police protection for inspecting the light on December 18. However, the State government had not responded to the request, said U. Kalanathan, chairman of the Sanghom, and K.N. Anilkumar, general secretary. The stampede that occurred on the hillock in 1999 claimed the lives of 53 devotees.
