Srinithin in semifinals

HYDERABAD: P. Srinithin Reddy advanced to the semifinals of the Pioneer Tennis Academy tournament with a 6-0 win over Venkat Sai Kiran in the boys under 14 years category here on Tuesday.

Zainab advances

Zainab Ali Sajjad posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Megha Sehrawat in the girls’ singles first round of the Lanco-JHIC National series tennis tournament here on Tuesday.

Vishnu Vardhan felicitated

J. Vishnu Vardhan, winner of the recent National grass court tennis championships singles and doubles titles at Kolkata and the all-India railway tennis tournament at Delhi, was felicitated by H.K. Padhee, General Manager, South Central Railway.

Present on the occasion were J.N. Jagannath and Vashishta Johri, President and General Secretary respectively of the South Central Railway Sports Association.

The Tricities Tennis Trust also presented him Rs. 50,000 towards sponsorship at the inaugural function of the Lanco-JHIC all India ranking national series on Monday.

Vishnu will represent the country in the Indo-Philippines series to be held at Puttaparthi, Anantapur from January 12 to 14.

Chess tournament

The A.P. Chess Association will organise the Brilliant Trophy State open prize money tournament at the Brilliant Grammar School, Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, on Saturday and Sunday.

Total prize money of Rs. 20,000 is in store for the top 20 places with special prizes for boys and girls under-6, 8, 10, 12 and 14. Entries close by 9.30 a.m. at the venue on the opening day.

Inter-dist. carrom

The 36th senior inter-district team and open carrom championship, sponsored by Orchid Homes, will be held at Western Hall of SAAP Tennis Complex, Hyderabad, from January 9 to 13, according to B.K. Haranath, president of Hyderabad Carrom Association.
