Official’s suspension sought

Staff Correspondent

Chitradurga: Several staff of the City Municipal Council (CMC) confronted Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas here on Tuesday, demanding the suspension of Municipal Commissioner T. Jayanna and revocation of the suspension of the seven employees. They also demanded the immediate release of four employees who had been sent to judicial custody on charges of criminal intimidation.

The protesters alleged that the Commissioner had misbehaved with them and had been involved in corrupt activities. Seven staff were suspended, of whom four were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday on charges of roughing up Mr. Jayanna.

Meanwhile, the four employees namely office administrator H. Mahantesh, in-charge health inspectors Gopal Krishna, Wasim and second division clerk Umesh Kumar are reportedly being released on bail.

The Deputy Commissioner, after hearing the protesters, sought time to analyse the issue.

However, the staff have decided to go on an indefinite strike demanding his suspension.
