Thiruvananthapuram: A ‘Grown Up with Congenital Heart Disease’ (GUCH) workshop is being organised by the Department of Cardiology, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) here on January 9 and 10. Open heart procedures to correct congenital heart diseases were a landmark achievement in the medical field. But this has given rise to new challenges as these patients grow up to be young adults due to the complex nature of their underlying heart problem. The SCT is in the process of setting up a modern and sophisticated centre for the treatment of these patients. The workshop, which is being organised in this connection, will have Shakeel Ahmed Qureshi, the chairman of the Paediatric Cardiology training programme in UK, who is also the head of the Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospital, London.
