NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday raised a toast to four women of Indian origin who had scaled the heights in their respective professions. Addressing the sixth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas meeting here, he said India took great pride in the achievements of people of Indian origin in diverse fields of human endeavour in different parts of the world. Having said this, Dr. Singh made special mention of the women achievers. The four women who found mention in his speech were Chief Executive Officer of Pepsico Indra Nooyi, astronauts Sunita Williams and Kalpana Chawla, and writer Jhumpa Lahiri. All, according to the Prime Minister, “are role models for our society seeking to give women a rightful place.”
