NEW DELHI: Education Minister Arvinder Singh on Tuesday announced that the Delhi Government would build separate toilets for girls and boys in all schools and where such a provision cannot be made porta-cabin toilets will be installed at the earliest. Mr. Singh, who visited schools in the Kalkaji area of South Delhi along with local MLA Subhash Chopra, said the Government was also keen on replacing the dilapidated school buildings with airy, well-lit, green and environment-friendly buildings with provision for groundwater recharging. The proposed buildings, he said, would also have a lot of open space to provide a wholesome environment to the students. Mr. Singh also proposed to build new educational buildings, classrooms, playgrounds, libraries, science laboratories, swimming pools, basketball courts, gymnasiums, amphitheatres and bore wells and install reverse osmosis systems for potable drinking water for the students. He said these facilities are a prerequisite for students to perform better not only in academics but also in life. Deadline of 45 daysThe Minister also directed Civil Engineering Department officials to complete this work in the schools within 45 days and apprise him of the developments. During his visit to the schools, Mr. Singh inspected the infrastructure and suggested several measures for improvement: “Apart from educational support, there is an urgent need to improve the environment in the schools to prompt students to perform better.”
