CAT: even checking the score was tough

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Even as the results of the Common Admission Test were announced on Tuesday, B-school aspirants across the State seemed to be facing a lot of difficulty, as they were not able to log on to the website to check their score and get the list of the Indian Institutes of Management that had short-listed them for group discussion and interview.

The results were supposed to have been uploaded on the comprehensive website — www.iimcat.in — by 3 p.m. “There is a lot of apprehension at this stage, as scores of students have not been able to get to know the main information — which IIM has short-listed them. Many have got to know their percentile score through SMS,” said Ajay Arora, Director, Triumphant Institute of Management Education.

He said that the situation had turned into an “anti-climax” as the key information was not known. “The website is not able to take the load and it is possibly why many students are not able to access their results,” he said.

G. Gopinath of IMS Learning Private Ltd., Mysore, said that students were finding it very difficult to log on to the website. “We have been trying to get results since 3 p.m. The load may probably decrease at night and more students will get to access their scores. We will know the details, such as cut-off, only tomorrow. It is too early to speculate about cut-off now,” he said.

The CAT, held on November 18 in 23 cities, had a lot of surprises in store for the 2.3 lakh B-school aspirants in view of different pattern of question papers.

Selected

An IIMB spokesperson said 1,050 candidates had been selected for the group discussion and interview round. “The letters intimating the same would be sent out to the candidates by Friday.”

Analysis of gender ratio and section-wise details of the selected candidates will be announced later next week. The cut-off is 5 percentile points less than what it was last year. Minimum percentile requirement for the first shortlist was an aggregate of 90 per cent. Section-wise and aggregate level cut-offs are based on the overall performance of all candidates in that year CAT and adjusted suitably to ensure that a large pool of applicants are available in each category, said sources.
