Air-conditioned bus service to Chennai begins

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has introduced two air-conditioned luxury buses on the Coimbatore – Chennai – Coimbatore route.

It has plans to introduce buses with low floors on the town bus routes.

A release from K. Jegannathan, Managing Director of the corporation said that the ordinary buses that were now plying on the Coimbatore – Chennai route have been replaced with the air-conditioned buses.

One bus with low floor had already been introduced on the town bus route in Coimbatore city while steps were being taken to introduce 24 more such town buses.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had recently flagged off 1,000 buses of which 102 were for the Coimbatore region.

Of them nine had been given to the Nilgiris, 10 for Valparai taluk and nine for Coimbatore city.

Twenty-nine buses were allocated for Coimbatore-Pollachi, Coimbatore-Tirupur and Coimbatore-Mettuppalayam routes.

In the Erode sector, 45 buses had been allocated for service between Erode and Coimbatore, Sathyamangalam, Dharapuram and Kangeyam.
