Court summons Tata Steel MD, four others

Jamshedpur: A court has summoned Tata Steel Managing Director B. Muthuraman and four other TISCO officials on charges of trespassing and demolishing a house at Sidgora here on March 31 last.

The court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Uttam Anand issued the summons on Monday against Mr. Muthuraman, three security officials and company’s Land and Estate Department head Ajay Sahay, following a complaint lodged by Priya Ranjan Singh.

Complaint filed

When contacted, a Tata Steel spokesperson refused to comment. Mr. Singh, a sub-contractor, had filed the complaint in the court of CJM P.K. Moitra on April 2 last accusing Mr. Muthuraman, three security personnel and Mr. Sahay of illegally entering his house along with 10-15 unknown persons and razing it down. Later, the case was transferred to the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate Uttam Anand.

To appear next month

After examining the four witnesses as well as the police report, the court took cognisance of the complaint against Mr. Muthuraman, Mr. Sahay and security personnel — Laxmikant Konark, Sunil Singh and Ajay Kumar Nag — and a dozen others under Section 452 (house trespassing), 453 (house breaking), 384, 323, 341, 504, 506, 120B and 109 of the IPC and directed all the accused to appear before it on February 8.

A Bihar Public Land Eviction case had earlier been lodged in the court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate by Tata Steel against Mr. Singh for constructing a house on the company’s land in Sidgora area. The petitioner’s counsel argued that when the court had taken cognisance and issued summons, how could Tata Steel officials demolish Mr. Singh’s house. — PTI
