Congress to review support to Jharkhand government

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday decided to review its support to the Madhu Koda government in Jharkhand.

“We will review our support to the State government. We will take the final decision on whether to continue to support the government after January 15. The decision will be taken on the basis of our assessment of how the government has performed on development issues,” said Ajay Maken, Congress in-charge of the State.

Ultimatum

On November 15 last year, the party gave a 60-day ultimatum to the Koda government to act on a 19-point charter of demands. It ends on January 15.

The Congress has nine members in the 81-member Assembly. If it withdraws support, the government will be reduced to a minority.

Mr Maken said he would meet the Pradesh Congress Committee president and other State leaders of the party in Dhanbad on January 11. He would elicit the response of the party MLAs on the performance of the government.

Meeting with Sonia

Mr. Maken’s remarks came after he met party president Sonia Gandhi along with other office bearers to wish her a speedy recovery.

The 15-month-old government survived a no-confidence motion moved by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance last December.
