PUDUCHERRY: Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan on Wednesday stressed the need for strengthening government polytechnics so that they would be able to produce specialised manpower for middle-level jobs. At a workshop on strategic planning at the Women’s Polytechnic here, Mr. Shahjahan said providing better courses, developing infrastructure and modernising facilities available for the students would pave the way for this. Developing vocational higher secondary education would ensure employability of the students, he said. The Minister also inaugurated a Continuing Education Centre at the Women’s Polytechnic College, in association with State Project Co-ordination Unit, Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu, established under the Canada India Institutional Co-operation Project. Jayantha Kumar Ray, director, Directorate of Higher and Technical Education; and G. Rani, principal (in-charge), Women’s Polytechnic College, spoke.
