GULBARGA: The two-day 12th annual conference of the Karnataka Chapter of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM) will be held at the Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College in Gulbarga city from Friday. President of the Karnataka Chapter of the IAMM Ravindranath Gangane and secretary R.C. Kanta told presspersons here on Wednesday that Gulbarga was hosting the annual conference for the first time. On the first day, Continuing Medical Education (CME) session would be held and on the second day, the main conference would be held, they said. Recent developmentsDr. Gangane said microbiologists of international repute would deliver lecturers on various facets of medical microbiology and the recent advances in the subject during the conference. He said that the CME programme would be inaugurated by former director of postgraduate courses at the Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, C.N. Nagesha. The main conference would be inaugurated by president of the IAMM Renu Bharadwaj, who is also the head of the Department of Microbiology at Grant Medical College in Mumbai. Dr. Gangane said that senior microbiologist and director of HAFFKIN Institute Ranjana Deshmukh would deliver a special lecture on the recent outbreak of chikungunya and dengue, and Dr. Renu Bharadwaj would deliver a special lecture on leptospirasis. Research papersDr. Gangane said that 30 research papers on medical microbiology would be presented by scholars. He said around 300 delegates from all over the State and neighbouring Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh would participate in the conference. The Annual General Body meeting of the Karnataka Chapter of IAMM would also be held on the concluding day and new office-bearers would take charge, he said.
