Gulbarga Taluk Panchayat was granted Rs. 20.8 lakh for providing infrastructure to schools

Demand: Members of Dalit Sena staging a dharna in front of the office of the Chief Executive Officer of Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat on Wednesday.

GULBARGA: The Gulbarga district unit of Dalit Sena on Wednesday demanded the zilla panchayat to order an inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of funds provided under the 12th Finance Commission head to the Gulbarga Taluk Panchayat during 2006-07.

Members of the sena, including many women, came in a procession to the office of the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat from Jagat Circle. They were prevented by the police at the main gate of the office compound from proceeding further. However, the sena volunteers, led by Goutam Kamble, gate-crashed into the compound and staged a dharna in front of the office for over 30 minutes.

Schools

The sena claimed that during 2006-07 the taluk panchayat was granted Rs. 20.8 lakh for providing infrastructure facilities at government primary schools in the taluk, including construction of compound wall and purchase of furniture. The funds were also meant for taking up construction of anganwadi buildings. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Executive Officer P.C. Jaffer, the sena demanded the official to personally inspect all the works taken up utilising the funds and initiate action against the erring officials. The memorandum also demanded the zilla panchayat to start works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in all the villages in the taluk and issue job cards to all those who had registered their names under the scheme.
