ARAKU (VISAKHAPATNAM DT.): CPI(M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu on Wednesday said the United Progressive Alliance Government’s reported move to set up second State Reorganisation Commission to study demand for granting statehood to Telangana and other regions would open a Pandora’s Box. “We, the Left parties will oppose the move as it will lead to the demand for formation of another 20 to 30 States in various parts of the country,” he said while inaugurating the three-day 19th district convention of the party here. Earlier, party activists came in a big rally waving red flags and banners from Yendavanipalasa to Araku valley junction. Dhimsa and other folk dances were the highlights of the rally in which hundreds of party members took part from all the 43 mandals with the majority from Araku, Anantagiri and Dumbiriguda mandals. Mr. Raghavulu said the CPI(M) was in favour of united Andhra Pradesh and appealed to the Centre to refrain from any adventure, which would be against the federal spirit. The CPI(M) leader came down heavily on the State Government for delaying framing of rules for implementation of the Central Act on regularisation of forestlands occupied by tribals and urged the Girijans to occupy podu lands and insist on issuing of pattas. Stating that their party would revive ‘bhoo poratam’ (land struggle) soon, he asked the Congress Government to frame the rules for forestland distribution during budget session of the Assembly. He said the party would intensify agitation against bauxite mining in the district. Later, he told reporters that the CPI(M) would decide on political alignment just before the elections. He said the floating of a new party by megastar Chiranjeevi as well as strengthening of the Bahujan Samaj Party would have an impact in State politics. Araku ZPTC Killo Surendra presided. CPI(M) MLC M.V.S. Sarma, district secretary Ch. Narsinga Rao, GK Veedhi sarpanch Korra Balaram and others spoke.
