Rural schemes worth 224 crore cleared

Staff Reporter

The schemes pertain to construction and maintenance of roads and ponds

Govt. had earmarked Rs.167 crore for development of villages in 2007-08

A total of 807 schemes had been sanctioned in the past three years

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Rural Development Board on Wednesday cleared 527 schemes worth Rs.224 crore at a meeting chaired by Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan.

The schemes approved at the meeting, which was also attended by a number of MLAs, pertain to construction and maintenance of roads and ponds, as also construction of a Khandajas community centre and a crematorium.

Addressing the Board, Mr. Chauhan said the Delhi Government had decided to provide all basic amenities in the villages before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and it was for this objective that the development works were being accelerated.

He pointed out that the Government had earmarked Rs.167 crore for development of villages in 2007-08 and a total of Rs.423 crore had been sanctioned for rural development works in various meetings thus far.

The Minister said while a total of 807 schemes had been sanctioned in the past three years since the reconstitution of the Rural Development Board in 2004, in this financial year alone a whopping 1,130 schemes had been sanctioned. This, he claimed, proved that the Delhi Government was seriously working for the development of all 172 villages of Delhi.

Mr. Chauhan said for power and water availability 84 schemes worth Rs.6 crore had been sanctioned.

As some members of the Board expressed concern over large-scale encroachment of Gram Sabha land, the Board resolved that the encroachments would be removed and such land would be demarcated and a permanent peripheral boundary wall would be built to protect it.
