The Metro would be extended up to Gurgaon, Faridabad and Bahadurgarh Proposals for setting up 91 Special Economic Zones in Haryana CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Wednesday that his regime would develop Panchkula and adjoining areas in the Chandigarh Capital Region with emphasis on IT and related sectors. A petro-chemical hub is also being set up in Panipat to utilise the capital feedstock from the Indian Oil refinery for downstream units, he added while addressing the plenary session of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi. According to an official release here, the Chief Minister asserted that his Government had already developed Gurgaon as a mega corridor to the National Capital Region (NCR). It was also proposed to develop a global economic corridor along the six- lane Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway for development of new urban and industrial townships. Furthermore, the Metro railway services would be extended up to Gurgaon, Faridabad and Bahadurgarh. Exports from Haryana had exceeded Rs.30,000 crore in 2006-07 and the major export items were software, automobiles and auto-components, garments, rice, handloom products, scientific instruments, electrical appliances, pickles and guar gum. He further claimed that the software exports which were just Rs.300 crores about five years back had touched Rs.14,000 crore this year. Thanks to the new policy initiatives, the State had already attracted investments worth Rs.28,000 crore and investments totalling around Rs.68,000 crore were in the pipeline. There were proposals for setting up 91 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Haryana and the Central Government had already approved 57 of these, he added. The State’s new industrial policy was aimed at reducing regulatory burden and simplifying the work place rules, he said. An Industrial Promotion Centre had been set up in Delhi to act as a one-stop shop for new industrial ventures being established in Haryana and an Industrial Promotion Act had also been enacted to provide clearance within a fixed time frame.
